Juan Francisco Overstreet Galeano, 51, passed away on January 28th, 2026. Juan was born in Bluefields, Nicaragua. He was the first born and only son of Mayra Galeano de Overstreet and John Wesley Overstreet. He was the older brother to Alicia and Michel, and father to Grace and Carlos.
The Overstreet family moved from Nicaragua to Sevierville TN in 1985 where Juan attended Caton's Chapel Elementary and Gatlinburg-Pittman High School. During his school years he enjoyed sports including football, baseball, and swimming, and playing the saxophone. He excelled academically and was involved in many extracurricular activities including school plays and anchoring the high school morning news, the Highlander News Network. After graduating high school Juan attended Northwestern University for a time before returning to Tennessee where he forged his own path in computer systems engineering. Professionally, he worked with various companies, was a proprietor of his own business, and ultimately found a home and work family at CTG. Juan was an essential part of any team he joined. He was a valued friend and mentor to many throughout his career and continued pursuing his own education in his field and in life.
Juan was truly a good human – respected in his work, admired for his character, and loved as a father, son, brother, and friend.
He cherished a good meal and a good drink with family and friends, a good hike with his kids or in solitude, and loved to travel and experience new places. Throughout his life he travelled widely with his family, friends, and colleagues to places all over the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe, and the Caribbean.
Juan was a sci-fi and music enthusiast, reflected by his love of all things Star Trek, Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy, among many other movies and books. He also appreciated and enjoyed music from any genre.
He will be missed for his calm demeanor; quiet strength, good listening skills; his sharp, quirky, sarcastic wit; great facial expressions, and certainly not least, his cooking skills. Juan could cook a mean steak, and his family could depend on him for the best Thanksgiving turkey.
He is preceded in death by his father, John Wesley Overstreet; grandparents Aldah Myrick, Leroy Bland Overstreet, and Carlos Alberto Ortega Diaz; and his aunts Mary O. Stone and Estelle Craft.
Juan's legacy lives on in his children, Grace and Carlos who were the pride and joy of his life; his mother, Mayra; his sisters, Alicia and Michel; his maternal grandmother, Petrona Galeano; and the mother of his children, Meagan.
"We ne'er shall look upon his like again, but he will live in our hearts and memories forever."
